Learning Proper SEO Techniques For Organic Growth
Proper search engine optimisation involves many different components, some of which are more beneficial than others however it is the combination of the good and the not so good factors that contribute to good SEO.
One of the higher-value activities you can undertake in SEO is linkbuilding to get ranked in the free organic search listing in either Google, Yahoo or Bing. In order to get a good organic listings a website needs to experience good organic growth in links pointing to the website.
Organic growth is, as the name implies, natural growth. When you are promoting and advertising your website, one of the indicators that the search engines look for is ‘natural’ growth of links back to your site.
If you are new to the world of Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) and Search Engine Marketing (SEM) then you may not know much about all the subtleties involved in linkbuilding however no matter which choice you make about SEO (in-house or outsourced) it will pay to have more than a basic understanding of these concepts.
If you look around the freelance sites you will see all sorts of jobs people want done regarding SEO work. Some people want 10 PR6 or better one-way links to their site. Someone else wants 50 comments on DO Follow blogs. If none of that makes sense to you then you really do need to learn what it means whether you are going to do your own SEO and website promotion or are going to outsource it to an SEO Expert to do it for you.
If you don’t learn about SEO or don’t hire the right SEO company to do the work for you then you risk getting banned from the search engines or even lose the existing rankings that you have.
How Can This Happen?
The leading search engines (Google, Yahoo and MSN Bing) are constantly modifying and improving their search algorithms that determine your placement in the SERP’s (Search Engine Results Pages).
Time and again techniques are going to arise which will temporarily allow people to effectively manipulate the search engine rankings by building a large number of links in a particular way and while it may take a while for the search engines to cotton on to the technique, eventually they will probably work it out and either penalise or sandbox sites that are using this strategy.
A recent SEO strategy that was in play included building of three-way links where Site A linked to Site B, Site B linked to Site C and then Site C linked back to Site A creating a nice one-way link network. It took the search engines a while to figured this tactic out however they did and many of the sites using this were panalised in rank and placement.
Many of the people doing this were professional SEO companies hired by people like you to improve the ranking your website.
Unfortunately none of the search engines care which SEO services you paid for to promote your site and unfortunately it isn’t social golf so you can’t take a ‘mulligan’ if you don’t like the result and start from where you were again.
If you are serious about your online business and want to succeed and stay in business for the long run then don’t try to jump ahead of the pack right away. Sometimes looking for the quickest ROI isn’t always the best long-term solution.
Proper SEO goes far beyond the few aspects I have mentioned here but if you have the time and inclination to learn about SEO and do it yourself then just keep in mind that there is no quick and easy solution despite what might see online.
However if you do choose to hire an SEO company then make sure that they offer a diversified linkbuilding system that builds links in a natural way and contributes to the long term success of your website.
If you plan to be in business for the long run then your website is going to be a vital cog in the future of that business.

Hi!…? lets say SEO Admin
I really found this blog interesting to say the least, very informative and you know your stuff.
There were quite a few points that you made that hit the nail on the head especially to do with the linking growth needing to be a steady and continuous to be effective in the long run.
I’m fairly new to internet marketing and website optimization but from what I have learnt recently in a short time is that accumulating loads of backlinks at a too quick a rate can…not so much hurt your ranking, but cause your site to show up lower than one would have expected. This has not happened to me personally…but I have seen the results of other websites in Market Samuri. Sites that have age and huge amounts of backlinks yet still showing up on search pages much lower than competition, with less site age and less backlinks. I guess playing fair will ultimately do more good than harm aye!
Very good site for info though…I’m going to favourite right now. Thanks mate!

Surprised to be the first comment considering your obvious expertise.
Hi Shaun,
Thanks for your comments on the article and you are 100% correct, building backlinks too quickly can impact your website rankings in a number of ways and Market Samurai certainly does give you a really good view of how the different ranking factors can come into play.
If you have a brand new site then it is important to avoid building a massive number of backlinks straight away as Google will pick this up and either flag or discount these links. There are obvious exceptions (sites that take off from a viral perspective for example) however as a general rule-of-thumb you want to keep your backlink building as organic and natural in nature as is possible.
While I certainly recommend the use of certain tools to make the backlink building process easier I believe that the value of these links that you build is tied into the amount of time and effort you put in at the front end setting it all up to ensure you have variety in anchor text and a variety of locations that you place the links on related sites.
Appreciate hearing from another Sunshine Coast local in the industry, this is certainly a nice part of the world to be doing business and I enjoyed reading some of your blog posts on Direct Marketing Strategies which is another topic I find very interesting especially after attending a Jay Abraham Bootcamp a few years ago.
To Your Success
Brad
